New Funding Secured for Free Immigration Advice Service

Posted 23rd March 2023

Thanks to new funding, Community Law Service is now able to offer some free immigration advice in Northamptonshire.  As a partner in the recently established East Midlands Immigration Network, consisting of 9 voluntary sector organisations across the region, the network has secured funding from the Justice Together Initiative.  Primarily the new project will provide specialist advice to those needing immigration advice. However the project is also focused on building capacity into the immigration advice sector and increasing the number of accredited immigration advisers.

As part of the network, a project advisory panel will be set up consisting of individuals with lived experience of the UK immigration system to scrutinise the work undertaken by the network and contribute to its future development.  Anyone interested in joining this panel should contact Community Law Service.

This funding is most welcome due to the severe shortage of immigration advice across the region.  Lack of advice often means people cannot regularise their immigration status which places them at risk of serious harm, such as facing destitution, being exploited through modern slavery or being forced to remain in an abusive relationship. The immigration system is complex and many cannot navigate the system without legal advice.  This new funding is much needed and very welcome in Northamptonshire.
